The Clout Descendants Society was formed in Australia in 1987 to promote and encourage research into the Clout family both in Australia and world-wide. Since that time the Society, through the dedicated efforts of its many researchers, has been able to gather a vast body of information about the Clout family, from its earliest known ancestors in 15th Century Kent England right up to the present day.

The Society held a highly successful Australian family reunion in 1989 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the family's first arrival in Australia. Later that same year, the Society published the Clout Family Chart for the last 350 years. This was followed in 1992 by Cloutlines: A Family History. While both these publications focus mainly on the Australian families, a significant portion is also devoted to the family's earliest English ancestors.
