Concert at the Town Hall.-A concert In aid of a fund for supplying clock for the new Townhall was given in that building on Monday evening, under the direction of Rosina Stanford, student of the Guildhall School of Music. We cannot congratulate Miss Stanford on the success of the concert so far as the attendance was concerned; but we can most sincerely compliment her not only upon the excellence of the programme, but also upon the exceptional ability with which the whole of was execrated. The concert, it will be remembered, was originally fixed for the Inst., but was unavoidably postponed. This resulted in the loss of the services of the Teddington Glee Union (a company of vocalists who never fail "draw" a good house), an engagement at Hampton preventing their attendance Monday night. Another disappointment, almost at the last hour, the inability of the well-known pianist, Mr. Lindsay Sloper, to fulfil his engagement. Despite these drawbacks, however, the concert, as we have already said, was a very successful one from a musical point of view, and the audience, some 200 in number, was most appreciative throughout, the majority of the selections being encored. Miss Stanford (who is pupil of Mr. Lindsay Sloper) and Mr. Van Noorden (who conducted and played) opened the concert with pianoforte duet, " Marche Torque," which was brilliantly played. Miss Stanford also successful in eliciting encore for each of her songs, "It dream" and Come to me," and she gave, in response, "Letter Song and "Crossing the Brook." Her fellow student at the Guildhall School of Music, Miss Annie Witt, contributed, in an able manner, Sunshine and Rain and "When the heart is young." The male vocalists were Mr. D. Harding, who gave "The Wolf " and "The Village Blacksmith," and as an encore song for his effective rendering of the latter. "The Diver." Mr. Sackville Evans, who sang, Hybrias tha Cratu and "Star of heart (both encored); and Mr. Arthur Thomas, whose selection, were a vocal tarantella, "La with castanet accompaniment the Tocahat, and " I met a maiden (both encored) M. Jules played two violin solos, BaUMie and Polonaise" and a minuet and mazurka, both performances evoking hearty round, applause. He also joined Mr. Noorden in a duet for violin end piano; and the last-mentioned gentleman gave a couple of pianoforte solos, in which he displayed marked ability. Mr. Charles. Gammon contributed two humorous musical sketches written himself, which gave him opportunity of display his abilities as ooelist, pianist, and mimic. Audience were enthusiastic in their applause, and Mr Gammon gratified their desire by giving second selection each part. Messrs H. Pegs and Sons lent most beautiful display of flowers, including lilies cyclamen, &c., for the decoration of the room. (Surrey Comet, Saturday, 29 January 1887)

MISS TALBOT'S CONCERT. On Tuesday evening a grand evening concert was given by Miss Lavinia Talbot, at 45, Powis-square, by kind permission of Miss Freud.
