Musical Works - Woo 16.
Words by: John Oxenford
'Tis no time to take a wife, honest John O' Grady,
When the land is fill'd with strife, gallant John O' Grady;
Who can think of beauty's charms in the midst of war's alarms?
"That can I, to be sure," said fearless John O' Grady.
After some unlucky fray, reckless John O' Grady,
They may bear your bride away, thoughtless John O' Grady:
From foes that never sleep, what treasure can you keep?
"I don't know till I try," said careless John O' Grady.
There's another danger too, roving John O' Grady,
Kathleen's eyes are bright and blue, fickle John O' Grady:
They might set your heart on fire and of Mary you might tire!
"I'll be blind ere that day!" said constant John O' Grady.
Still another point, dear John, hapless John O' Grady,
All your broad estates are gone, ruined John O' Grady
And your castle once renown'd, now is levell'd with the ground!
"But my heart yet is firm," said dauntless John O' Grady.
