Musical Works - Woo 3.
Words by: F. E. Weatherly, BA
The night was sweet with winds and flow'rs,
A maiden drew her lattice by
And watch'd above the minster tow'rs
The silver moonboat sail the sky.
She heard a noble voice below,
A song that chain'd her to the spot,
That made the fair hours fairer flow,
A song of love that dieth not!
The traitor years go by, go by,
The traitor years go by,
But true love lasts, though all things die,
But true love lasts, though all things die,
True love lasts, though all things die!
The song was hush'd, the singer gone,
But ever in the after times,
The maiden, when she kept alone,
Strove aye to piece the broken rhymes.
She sang "The lonely years go by,"
She sought to end the song in vain, in vain, in vain,
When lo! there drew the singer nigh,
Who sang the ending of the strain.
"The lonely years go by, go by,
The lonely years go by,
But true love lasts, though all things die,
But true love lasts, though all things die,
True love lasts, though all things die."
