  • Gentle thoughts of thee. Ballad

Words by: George Linley

When morning throws a golden light
On ev'ry tree and flow'r
And joyous songbirds wake their lay
From out the verdant bow'r:
Delighted I wander,
While gazing on each sunny beam
That sparkles and dances
Upon the silent stream:

Ah! then in sweet unbroken dreams
'Mid ev'ry charm I see
Far from the world my heart can dwell
In gentle thoughts of thee.
Far from the world my heart can dwell
In gentle thoughts of thee.

When daylight dies and whisp'ring winds
Sigh softly thro' the grove
And pale and trembling stars look down
From their bright homes above:
With rapture surveying
Each heav'nly orb supremely fair
My spirit while watching
Forgets its grief and care.

Ah! then when all is hush'd to rest
And calm o'er land and sea.
My hopeful heart a solace finds,
In gentle thoughts of thee.
My hopeful heart a solace finds
In gentle thoughts of thee.
