Musical Works - Woo 9.
Words by : George Linley
To see those we love gather'd round us once more,
After long years of abscence and strife,
To feel that their presence hath pow'r to restore
The faded enjoyments of life:
Oh! this is a prospect unclouded by care,
By the world's sordid gaze unalloyed
When souls warm and true a companionship share,
Nor distance nor time hath destroy'd:
O! bless'd be the hour, to behold, side by side,
The friends of our youth, the companions of yore,
Then send round the cup, fill'd from friendship's pure tide,
Drink to those that we love gather'd round us once more,
Those we love gather'd round us once more.
So seldom joy's roses encircle the brow,
So transient life's sunshine appears,
That well may we prize those that bloom round us now,
To sweeten this valley of tears;
While love and true friendship our hearts thus entwine,
We'll journey life's path with delight;
And ne'er with a more hallow'd flame did they shine
Than on this happy meeting to night.
O! bless'd be the hour, to behold, side by side,
The friends of our youth, the companions of yore;
Then, send round the cup, fill'd from friendships pure tide,
Drink to those that we love gather'd round us once more,
Those we love gather'd round us once more.
