Early Goods Wagons Catalogue

The following Collection of Early Goods Wagon Drawings are currently available. All are printed at 1:43.5 scale (O) on A3 sized sheets. The sheets are available individually or as a set which includes a ring binder, index & foreword, and several sheets showing the numbers of each type of vehicle that were running on the NSWR during the years 1855 - 1905 at 5 yearly intervals - see Availability.

These sheets include drawings of the plan, elevations and sections of the subject, and information regarding the manufacturers and numbers given to the vehicles where this is known.

This collection of drawings was produced in 1991 - 92 from information then available to me. Since that time additional information and photographic evidence has been uncovered during research for a book on the subject of early goods rolling stock. This additional information will augment the information included on these drawings, and may uncover more accurate data.

There is not a great deal of information extant regarding some early vehicles, and for a few only photographs exist. Generally these drawings have been prepared using the NSWR General Arrangement drawings, although it should be noted that General Arrangement drawings were usually prepared as tender documents and the actual construction of the vehicles by the contractors may have varied from these tender drawings, and the designs of the wagons have been cross referenced with photographs where possible. Reference has also been made to the NSWR vehicle diagrams, the existence of which generally indicates that the vehicle shown did operate on the railways.
