Elder children of Charles & Elizabeth
Charles and Elizabeth’s children were all born at Hay Flat, Yankalilla. The first six children followed in the rural and farming footsteps of their parents and married into local families. Their first child, Charles Thomas, became a blacksmith and worked around the district. Elizabeth Mary married Walter Roads and they moved to Port Pirie in 1891 to. enable Walter to become a carpenter at the new lead smelter. Two of their children became centenarians. James Austin and John Robert continued to farm at Hay Flat, both marrying Tonkin women.  James’ wife, Emily, and one of John’s children, Walter, also became centenarians. Agnes married John Sampson Torr, a farmer at nearby Normanville. William Henry tried his hand at farming, carting and baking in the Adelaide and Mount Barker.
