There's a letter from Alf to Arch 10/2/1939, his address "Inverell" Milton Rd., Auchenflower, Queensland. Con must be in hospital as he asks Arch and Peg to visit.

Was a permanent soldier. Joined the AIF in his early twenties, saw active service during World War 1 and remained in the army until the time of his retirement. Reached the rank of Lt .Colonel. When boredom set in after his retirement he dabbled in real estate for a few years.

Was affectionately called "Pops" in his later years by all who knew him well.

Alfred married Ethel May CROSS, daughter of Edward CROSS and Mary Ann LOWE, on 1 Mar 1916 in Yetman, NSW.¹¹⁹ (Ethel May CROSS was born in Sep 1889 in Graman, NSW,¹¹ died on 22 Jul 1966 in Brisbane, Qld. and was buried in Mt Thompson Crematorium, Brisbane, Qld..)
