Apparently James and Catherine had no surviving children as James is described in Deed 98 of 1866 as having no "heirs male of his body lawfully begotten"

James had a relationship with Hannah DEMPSEY, daughter of John DEMPSEY and Unknown. (Hannah DEMPSEY was born about 1822 in Ireland,² died on 8 Sep 1897 in Baddaginnie, Vic. ² and was buried on 9 Sep 1897 in Benalla Cemetery, Vic. ² ⁵.). The cause of her death was Stomach cancer.
