DURING HIS MILITARY CAREER HE WAS PRESENT AT THE STORMING OF CHUZNČE AND CAPTURE OF KHELAT IN 1839 UNDER GENERAL LORD KEANE, SUBSEQUENTLY AT THE SIEGE OF SEVASTOPOL HE HAD COMMAND OF THE 17TH REGT. IN 1854 1855 AS COLONEL BOURKE, HE WAS EXON OF THE QUEEN'S ROYAL BODYGUARD TILL PROMOTED MAJOR GENERAL IN 1873. HE RECEIVED MEDAL FOR CHUZNČE AND CRIMEAN MEDAL WITH CLASP ALSO TURKISH MEDAL AND MILITARY ORDER OF THE MEDJIDEE. BORN NOVEMBER 24th 1815 DIED APRIL 28th 1880 AND IS BURIED IN THE FAMILY VAULT OF THIS CHURCHYARD. THIS TABLET IS ERECTED BY HIS AFFECTIONATE WIDOW".
