Auditory Processing Disorder
An auditory processing disorder (APD) is often diagnosed in the first years of schooling by the following characteristics; difficulty functioning in noisy environments, slow processing of verbal material which limits ability to understand conversational speech over time, and poor auditory memory which results in poor task performance and limited ability to recall basic facts and learn routines (Lee & Munro, 2003, p. 127).
For teachers of students who are diagnosed as having APD this requires similar implications for students with a hearing loss.
