'The Call of the Quargle' is a rhyme for 1-4 year olds. It is a list of strange and wonderful creatures - but what sound do they make? Nobody knows! More work is needed to find out.
Inspired by many things.
My own reading, which has involved a lot of children's poetry, notably Quentin Blake, Michael Rosen, Edward Lear and Dr Seuss.
Just the sheer enjoyment of it - language, imagination, invention, rhythm and sound.
Watching what kids of this age are interested in and excited about.
Collaborating with the talented and somewhat fantastic Naomi Zouwer whose pictures have brought the menagerie to life - and now we know what they look like, even if they are still silent.
There may be more picture books; we are talking about one about playing in the street.
