yellow duck

Creative Challenge 2 - Book Cover

Design Theory

The objective for this challenge was to place the yellow duck in some landscape.

I approached this challenge logically by placing the yellow duck in its natural-ish habitat, water. I did not place it in the exact centre of the image but more to the right because as a composition I believe it works well. I believe that placing a focus point in the centre creates symmetry, and although the natural world is made up of symmetrical shapes the way we view it not, due to a collaboration of symmetrical shapes in a frame. So by placing it off centre makes it look my natural. I had to bring the contrast & brightness down in Photoshop then also add a bit of blue to the duck (due to the reflection of the water). a reflection was also added to help it look realistic.

Improvements when looking back at this challenge, should have made the duck sink deeper into the water by cutting more of the bottom, it still looks like its floating unnaturally. The scale of the duck is too large (can see this by looking at the horizon line then approximately judge the distance from the duck). Possibly should have chosen a different landscape image or added entourage to help in justifying the ducks scale. Contrast and brightness still to bold, does not make it look realistic.
