A journalist, who is trying to uncover a conspiracy, tells the tale of a government worker who is deeply affected by his contact with cyborgs.
In chapter 1, technology has been corrupted to extend the community service as punishment system. The toll on the government workers, who are expected to work with the punished, is starting to show.
Please remember this is a Science Fiction. I do not wish to deride the people who clean up our mess, but to praise them for their forbearance. The community service aspect, while worthy of inspection, is only a background to the story, so I hope you enjoy the rest.
I forgot to check who had critqued before removing it from Scribophile but I know I can thank Richard Crawford helping with 2 parts.

Set in the near future, we follow a post-modern family separated by digital realities, the insidious rise of cyborg domination, and the coming of age of a lonely mechanical monster that will stop at (almost) nothing to tear them apart. This story is guaranteed to contain no romance or credible facts.

A tripus is the stuff of nightmares: three long grasping tentacles, one all seeing eye, and a razor sharp beak. One (or possibly several) of these creatures stalks the city of Florist. Already, the Hotel family have been murdered in their beds. Can pest control officer, Fennel, find this monster and win favour with the king's daughter, or will she and her assistant be turned into fertiliser.
A story of loves lost, alien intrigue, mysterious murders and culinary dilemma. There will also be attempts at humour.
This novel contains one minor character (a tripus) and one major event from previous tales, but can be read without foreknowledge of my previous temporal inventions.
